Proud Mary was written by John Fogerty and released in January 1969 on an album entitled Bayou Country. It reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 hits charts!

It mirrors an earlier song about a washerwoman and combined with Fogerty’s own experience of being discharged from the National Guard.

Ike and Tina Turner did a remake as well that was quite successful for them reaching #4.
