When Tina Turner's second husband Erwin Bach didn't call her for two days following their initial encounter, she became furious.
She described bedding Erwin after a dinner party and waiting for his call in her memoir "My Love Story" as follows: "Music was playing, the other guests faded away, the kissing began, and we kissed all the way to the bedroom. That night, Erwin stayed with me.
But Tina claimed that a few months later, while she was promoting "Private Dancer" in Basel, Switzerland, she ran across Erwin again and "all my feelings came roaring back."
He had a business trip planned to Hawaii for the next morning. For two days, I couldn't stop thinking about him. Then, he called and casually mentioned that his trip had been postponed.
He hadn't thought to tell me that he had been spending time with his coworkers just a few miles away in Malibu the entire time.
"I tried to seem calm, but on the inside, I was enraged. I yelled, "Tina, you stupid old fool." Why did I pick such poor partners for myself? Why was disappointment a constant?
"I couldn't stand the idea of getting hurt once more. I reasoned that being by myself was better.
I asked him and a few other employees from EMI (the record label) to come because I had booked a home in Gstaad for the holidays, she said. And one night Erwin showed up by himself, sporting a silly German hat and a masculinity that I couldn't help but be drawn to.
35 years after she finalized her divorce from her controlling first husband and musical collaborator Ike Turner, the late "Private Dancer" singer wed the German music producer in 2013. He was at her side when she passed away at the age of 83 on May 24 at their Swiss residence.
