Paul and his acoustic. Recording "The Backyard"
Aug 30, 1974
One fine day Paul suggested that it would be fun to
work outside and scouted around for a local location.
The area he chose was the grubby yard behind the
echo chamber at the abbey road studios, clogged
with rusting bits and pieces save for a tiny patch
of unfettered grass. This was it -Paul grabbed a chair
from the studio, slung his jacket across the back and
plonked himself down. There was no room for anyone
else so it became a solo spot.He did a few songs and
Peggy Sue was one of them.
On 10 September 1971, shortly after moving to
New York City, John Lennon was recorded
performing a number of songs on an acoustic
guitar in the room at the St Regis Hotel he
was temporarily living in with Yoko Ono. It was
the soundtrack to Clock, a film which chronicled
the passing of an hour on the hotel room’s wall clock.
John vocal was taken from that recording.
