Let’s Play Black Mesa #11: Reaching the Surface

This is a blind playthrough. Kindly avoid posting spoilers in the comments or solutions to puzzles either in this video or future ones so as not to spoil the experience for me or those that haven’t seen the game before.

The marines are by far the toughest opponents we’ve encountered so far. Working as a team, each squad assesses the situation and reacts to what you do in a very tactical manner. They’ll keep their distance, lay down suppressing fire and try their best to flank you. If you manage to get a good defensive position, they’ll try to use grenades to flush you out but even with all that, they’re far from infallible. They ultimately want to get you and so can be goaded to slowly approach regardless of the danger to themselves, allowing you to pick them off one by one. If you’re very lucky, they’ll drop a health kit alongside with their ammo, ammo that is used in both the pistol and the SMG.

Fortunately for us, we’re already pretty close to the surface which means that we’ll soon be out of the facility. Once free of its confines, we can take stock of the situation and work out the best course of action. It’s clear that we can’t rely on the military for help and I doubt there’s anyone else living nearby that can lend a hand but maybe we can find the safest way out for everyone else and inform what scientists and security forces remain alive of its location. Some may be overwhelmed with aliens and the more prominent will have marines blockading them but there’s bound to be at least ONE way out that’s clear of threats… right?
