Decked out in an exotic silver dress, Kimbra emanated an ethereal stage presence at JBTV Studios and displayed a delicious vocal range. She was accompanied by her band featuring Timon Martin on guitar/vocals, Frank Abraham on bass/keyboards, Taylor Graves on keyboards/vocals, and Stevie McQuinn on drums. Kimbra began the set with “Teen Heat” playing on feelings of attraction and admiration occurring during adolescence. Kimbra’s lyrical skills sent the audience off in a nostalgic time machine.
Along the nostalgia theme, Kimbra reminisced about the good old days on “90’s Music". Kimbra has steadily risen up the ranks of Indie Pop by showcasing a distinctive style that has received critical and popular recognition. In 2012 she received Best Female Artist at the ARIA Music Awards, and in 2013 she received the Record of The Year and Best Pop Dou/Performance awards at the 55th Annual Grammy’s for “Somebody I Used to Know” alongside her collaborator Gotye.
It’s obvious Kimbra has no plans of slowing down after the acclaim of her latest album “The Golden Echo.” We should expect more collaborations like the ones she is working on with Dirty Projector’s Dave Longstreth and Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Ruban Nielson.
