The Jays voted, and even though the great John Fogerty celebrated his 79th birthday last week, on 5-28-24, we happily revisited the excellent Creedence Clearwater Revival canon for this jewel, released as a single late in 1970, reaching #8 on the Hot 100 early in 1971. This was among the 14 consecutive Top 10 singles released by Creedence, which is a stunning feat. The "Pendulum" LP from which it came was also among the five consecutive Top 10 albums released by the group.

Fogerty's songs are staples of any gathering of musicians looking to sing and play together. A horrific contract situation kept Fogerty from the true value of the royalties generated by his songs, but decades later, he finally owns most or all of the rights to his own music. Better late than never?

The Jays dropped the key from CCR's C down to E, and had a grand time howling at the moon. We added a harmony part that I always thought was in the original, and enjoyed the organ part that we heard for the first time this week while dissecting the song.
