“G.I. Blues” was written by Sid Tepper and Roy C Bennett as the title song for the very successful 1960 film. Directed by Norman Taurog, and starring Elvis Presley, Juliet Prowse and Robert Ivers, the movie was shot at Paramount Pictures studio, but with some pre-production scenery shot on location in Germany (before Presley's release from the army).
The movie was runner up for the Laurel Award as Top Musical of 1960, and is best known for its soundtrack, which contained 11 songs – all of which have proved to be popular single tracks. At the time, the album topped the Billboard Top Pop Album chart, remaining in top spot for eleven weeks. It went on to be RIAA-certified gold in 1963, then platinum in1992.
Both the album, and the movie, are considered essential collector items for Elvis fans around the world.
I hope you enjoy this cover of mine, and take the time to visit my YouTube covers of several other songs from the movie.
