Have You Ever Seen the Rain is a song by Creedence Clearwater Revival, written by John Fogerty and released in 1970 on the album Pendulum, on the Fantasy record label and on the 45 rpm Have You Ever Seen the Rain/Hey Tonight. The song reached number one on Canada's RPM chart of the National 100 Songs in March 1971. In the same year in the US it reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, while on the Cash Box pop chart it reached number three. The Billboard chart also featured the b-side track 'Hey Tonight'. In the UK it reached 36th position.
There were various interpretations of the song's lyrics: according to some, it referred to the Vietnam War, with the 'rain' being a metaphor for bombs from the sky. However, Fogerty himself had stated during a concert that the song was dedicated to his daughter, who was the 'rainbow' of his life. He had later stated in another interview that the song was about the growing tension within CCR, brought about by the imminent departure of his brother Tom from the band.
