I grew up listening to all kinds of music and have always been a sort of musical explorer. I don’t care about genres at all, or what’s popular. If something moves me, it stays with me forever.
By the time I was in high school I’d gone through several genre explorations, from old school hip hop to 70s and 80s punk. I was always trying out new stuff.
I remember vividly sitting in drafting class in 10th grade. Since it was in the shop building separated from the main classrooms, our teacher, Mr. Keil, would play music over the loudspeaker. We quickly learned of his love of Creedence Clearwater Revival and before long we were all huge fans. Even though it was around 18 years after its release, this music moved me. From my recollection, the first time I heard Bad Moon Rising, I went out that day and bought Creedence Gold on cassette and listened to it over and over. Always one of my favorites and still a fan to this day.
My current exploration is artists from across the pond (UK, Ireland and Scotland). I’ve discovered so many artists who will be lifelong favorites and are inspirational to me. I’ll write more on them later.
About a week ago, I heard English artist Thea Gilmore’s stripped down, beautiful and brilliant version of Bad Moon Rising, and again listened to it over and over. You should check it out. It gave me a new appreciation for the power of the lyrics and her take is simple and elegant. I always thought it’d be fun to do my own version and her version inspired me to give it a go.
Anyway, its far from perfect and can't touch the original, or the above mentioned cover. But I hope you enjoy it. Sort of a humble tribute to the amazing John Fogerty, CCR, and Thea as well.
Blessings.
