Airdate -January 7, 1967
This is the infamous “Rango” episode where they had the cast of the new ABC comedy appear as guests (including Tim Conway) and they played the western-styled theme song on Rate-A-Record. Don Sanuskar & Deedra Higgins had the unfortunate task of dancing on the riser during that song. This became a frequent clip played on anniversary shows.
For this, the final song on today’s episode, Don Sanuskar may be recovering from “Rango” and Peggy Waggoner sat this one out too, letting her older sister Dona dance with Frank Vanderpuil (1:05). Also dancing to “Good Thing” today are Danny McClane (0:51), Danny Lawyer & Deedra Higgins (1:10), Famous Hooks & Marcia Silverman (1:40), Dan DelCampos (2:04), John Pollard (2:29), Rick Kline (3:17), Deedee DelCampos (3:17) and on the riser are June Strode and head bopping Leonard Smith.
Paul Revere and the Raiders continue their huge success from ’66 here into early ’67 as “Good Thing” rises to #7 today. It will peak at #4 next week, making it their biggest hit of the 1960’s (tied with ”Kicks” which also peaked at #4 back in ‘66).
Coming Up Next: we go back to the Fall of 1963 as Bruce, Barbara, Bobby, Ailyene, Pat and the rest of the Philadelphia kids dance to a top 10 song by one of the biggest female artists of the day. Until then, have a great Labor Day, stay safe, wear a mask, and thank you for watching!
