Join me in this new video for an intimate sit-down with Howard Jones, who's topping the bill now on the national '80s rewind, Retro Futura. In this thought-provoking conversation, Howard talks about the excitement of touring and playing all over the world—even after so many remarkable years—and about how Buddhism helps him direct his life. His message: You are responsible for your life and its direction, so take charge. And yes, he says, it can be difficult, as he knows.

On the musical front, high-energy Howard, 62, never rests. The singer, songwriter and musician has recently released a new triple CD, Howard Jones best, 1983 – 2017, and he talks about that here. Out on the road, he's playing with his new Electric Band. In the past year or so, Howard did "intimate evening" concerts in the U.K., and played Japan and Australia. He's already set to play more dates in the U.K. in November.

Howard, who's sold more than 8 million albums, is best known stateside for such songs as "No One Is to Blame," "Things Can Only Get Better" and "Everlasting Love." He broke new musical ground with his use of the synthesizer, and throughout his career, has been among the first artists to embrace new technology.

He pioneered the then totally-new concept of an independent artist—which has now become the norm. He talks about the synth and his own independent streak in this interview. He also says he worked hard to master the piano and he's made no secret about wanting to do music differently—his way.

Howard takes care of himself at home and on the road. See who he admires from the greatest rock n' roll band in the world when it comes to keeping it all together. He shares his diet and workout habits here, and when you see him on stage, you know they're working for him.

Finally, Howard reminds us all that we really are in charge of our own lives. He's still making the most of his.

See him with Paul Young, Katrina (from Katrina and the Waves), The English Beat, Men Without Hats, Modern English and on some dates, Bow Wow Wow’s Annabella. Watch my videos with Paul here and with Katrina here, too.
