Released October 1969 from the album "Willy and the Poor Boys'

One of the most “misheard lyrics” songs in Top 40 history. Quite possibly the most unintelligible lyrics ever heard.

The song chronicles the tale of the fictional band Willy and the Poor Boys, and how they play on street corners to cheer people up and ask for nickels.

The song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 20 December 1969.
The flip side, "Fortunate Son", reached No. 14 on the United States charts on 22 November 1969, the week before Billboard changed its methodology on double-sided hits.

Billboard described the single as having "an infectious calypso beat.

The song makes reference to a harmonica, washboard, a kazoo, a Kalamazoo guitar, and a gut bass.

John Fogerty did all the singing on this. He recorded a bunch of vocal tracks that were overdubbed to create the effect that he was harmonizing with himself.

CCR's musical style encompassed roots rock, swamp rock, blues rock, Southern rock, country rock, and blue-eyed soul.

CCR disbanded acrimoniously in late 1972 after four years of chart-topping success.

John Fogerty was at odds with the remaining members over matters of business and artistic control, all of which resulted in subsequent lawsuits among the former bandmates.

He refused to perform with the two other surviving members at Creedence's 1993 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
